Woman, 23, left injured in attempted robbery at cash machine

A woman was left injured in an attempted robbery at a cash machine in an Angus town.

The incident happened on Montrose High Street yesterday evening.

The culprit did not manage to steal anything, but the 23-year-old woman suffered injuries to her hip and leg as as a result of the incident.

Police are now hunting a man in connection with the crime.

He is described as being about 5ft 6in tall, of slim build and was wearing a navy hooded top and jeans.

In appealing for information, police have advised the public to be alert to their surroundings when using ATMs and to remain cautious of carrying out transactions if there there are any concerns regarding persons nearby in the area.

A statement released by Police Scotland read: “Do not allow people to look over your shoulder as you enter your pin. After making a withdrawal, immediately put it in your wallet or purse before leaving the cash machine.

“If you have any concerns about any suspicious persons near an ATM, use an alternative one.

“Anyone who was in the area of High Street, Montrose last night and saw or heard anything that may assist officers with their enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.

“Alternatively information can be passed via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
