Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars in the latest of a series of incidents in an Angus town.
Scott Roy, who runs an engineering business in Kirriemuir, said damage was caused to a total of nine cars in his yard over two nights last week.
Mr Roy said the vandalism was caused during two nights when “youths were running amok” in the town.
He explained that the vandals first struck at his yard when they smashed windows of some of the cars he stores there for friends and family.
He said: “They returned the next night and caused even more damage to the cars.
“All the windows of the cars were smashed and the paintwork has been damaged on several vehicles.
“To replace the windows of the cars would cost around £1,000 a vehicle — £9,000 in total. I have stored cars on this site for years and this has never happened before.
“But last week it would appear that a group of youths were running amok in the Glamis Road area of the town, causing loads of damage.”
Mr Roy said that some of the cars had been due to be scrapped but others belonged to people who had them on statutory off-road notices.
“I am going to have to reimburse some of the people. It will cost me thousands out of my own pocket that I can’t afford.
“You shouldn’t have to have everything locked up. They should just leave things alone.”
Mr Roy said that friends who lived in another part of the Glamis Road told him that during last Thursday and Friday nights cars parked outside their homes were damaged and eggs had been thrown at their houses.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said officers were appealing for information regarding a number of incidents of vandalism which occurred during the evenings of Wednesday October 12 and Thursday October 13.
The spokeswoman said cars parked in Glamis Road were vandalised by being scratched, while two garden fences in the same street were damaged.
She added: “A house window was broken in Morrison Street and seven cars were damaged whilst parked in a storage yard in North Mains Road.
“Anyone with any information that may be useful should contact Tayside Division on 101 or any police officer.”
