A pensioner has said she was “incredibly grateful” to the Dundee schoolgirl who dashed to her rescue after she fell on a busy street.
Traffic had to be halted after Sylvia Sinden collapsed on the road and injured herself.
The 82-year-old was discovered on the side of Monifieth High Street on Thursday just after 5pm.
Olivia Bruce, 13, of Broughty Ferry, immediately rushed to help Sylvia, along with Dundee charity boss Charlie Kean.
The OAP was reunited with the pair on Friday at Hometay House in Monifieth.
Sylvia said she lost her balance and fell over after she turned to wave to a friend.
“I was just getting off the bus at tea time when I turned to wave to my friend,” she said.
“I ended up lying on the road and felt so silly. However, Olivia came to my rescue and made sure I was all right and helped me get to safety.
“I’m so incredibly grateful to her. She’s such a sweetheart.
“Young people can get a bad press, so it’s lovely to be able to thank Olivia for what she did.”
Olivia, a Monifieth High School pupil, said: “I just saw her lying there and knew I needed to help her.”
Charlie stopped the traffic on the street and also went to Sylvia’s aid.
He said: “I was just heading to the supermarket to get my tea at the back of 5pm and the woman was lying there on the High Street. She was on the edge of the road.
“I jumped out of my van and put my hazard lights on and blocked the traffic on one side of the road.
“The woman was lying facing upwards. I saw she was injured and spoke to her, asking if anything was hurting. She told me she didn’t know what had happened.
“Olivia, who was at the scene, gave me a hand to lift her up. We sat her down on a seat at the bus stop until she came round. She was badly shaken.
“She told me she lived just across the road in the nursing home.
“I lifted her on to my shoulder and walked her across the road and got her safely back to her accommodation where someone was waiting to help her.
“She said to me, ‘You’re a very strong man’. I’m just glad she’s not badly hurt.”
