They work tirelessly to make sport accessible to disabled people.

Since being honoured at the Evening Telegraph’s Community Spirit Awards earlier this year, the Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club has been going from strength to strength.

They now have 20 new members and are representing Scotland in the Wheelchair Rugby League European Championships today.

The club’s chairperson, Elizabeth Ferris, said: “It was great to be recognised and since then we’ve grown and grown.

“We now offer wheelchair basketball, badminton, tennis, rugby league, squad rugby and curling.

“Some of our members do just one sport or a variety — it’s a great mix.”

The Community Spirit Awards are back for 2016, with sponsors including Police Scotland.

Chief Superintendent Eddie Smith, Divisional Commander for Tayside Division, said: “We are very proud to be a part of the Evening Telegraph’s Community Spirit Awards for the second year.

“The efforts of those who contribute to making our communities stronger, safer and better places are rightly recognised through these awards and we very much look forward to being part of the Community Spirit Awards again this year.”

Licensed trade body S.T.A.R. is another sponsor this year.

Morag Beattie, project co-ordinator, said: “We are supporting this award as the S.T.A.R. scheme is all about raising standards and sharing good practice in and around licensed premises in Dundee.”

This year’s categories are Spirit of Dundee, Good Neighbour, Courage, Lord Provost Award, Changing Face of Dundee, Sport, Senior, Health and Wellbeing, Young,

Uniform Services Team, Public Services Team and Safer Streets.

This is your chance to honour the people you think helps make Dundee great in each of these categories.
