Tributes have been paid to a Tayside man who died suddenly at 35.
Former bar steward Edwin Manby, from Carnoustie, passed away at home. He was described as a “really helpful and kind guy”.
Workmates and friends told the Tele of their shock at Edwin’s passing.
John Acheson, 42, an industrial cutter from Carnoustie, worked with Edwin at Panmure Golf Club.
Mr Acheson said he was still in shock after hearing the news.
He added: “I used to work with him up at Panmure. He was a really helpful and kind guy.
“He worked out the front and I worked at the back so I was always working alongside him.
“It was a total shock hearing the news. You would always see him going about on his moped — he definitely loved that thing.
“I used to see him flying up and down the road on it.
“I actually didn’t believe it until I saw his family posted the news on Facebook.
“He was a quiet guy, compared to me anyway. That was just him though. He was quiet but a great guy and he will be missed.”
Edwin, who was known as Edd, spent four years working at the golf club as a bar steward.
Captain elect of Panmure Golf Club, David Anderson, paid tribute on behalf of the club.
He said: “Edwin was head bar steward at Panmure Golf Club between 2010 and 2014. He was always warm and friendly. He ran the bar with a jovial style that was welcoming for members and visitors alike.
“He was well liked and respected by our members who have been left shocked and saddened by his sudden death.
“Our thoughts are with his family, particularly his mum Jackie, who until recently, also worked at Panmure.”
Another friend, who did not want to be named, described Edwin as “a good lad”.
He said: “I used to go for a drink now and again up at Panmure.
“It’s a shame. He was a young lad with a life ahead of him.
“When I heard the news it hit me in the stomach. It was such a sad thing to hear about. Carnoustie is a close-knit area so everyone will be feeling it.”
Edwin’s family were too upset to comment when approached by the Tele.
His funeral, to which family and friends are invited to pay respects, will be held on Tuesday at noon in Selwood Funeral Directors’ service room, Dundee Street, Carnoustie.
