A Tayside care worker is to face a disciplinary hearing over a number of allegations of misconduct while employed at a nursing home — including swinging a resident by her hands.

Marie Galloway is set to face the Scottish Social Services Council in Dundee next week in connection with her time employed at Lunan Court Nursing Home in Arbroath.

She will face a number of charges, including pulling a resident by his pyjamas, ripping them.

Ms Galloway is also accused of pushing the same man on to a toilet seat. Another charge is that she swung a resident around by her hands.

She is accused of letting the woman’s hands go, causing her to fall on to her bed and nearly banging her head on the wall.

Her actions are alleged to have caused harm or risk to the woman.

Ms Galloway is further charged with swearing in the presence of service users on numerous occasions and thereby failing to communicate in an appropriate manner.

Other charges allege that she said she would “kick in” a person if she asked her to mop the floor again and she is alleged to have stated that she was “sick fed up of lazy nurses obsessed with cleaning”.

On another occasion she is alleged to have sworn at a resident after the service user’s knee came into contact with her stomach.

The charges state that Ms Galloway failed to meet relevant standards of practice and failed to communicate in an appropriate manner.

All the incidents are alleged to have happened between April and June last year.

A spokesman for HC-One, which runs the nursing home, said: “As soon as the allegations were brought to our attention, we immediately suspended the individual and, following an internal investigation, she was dismissed.”

She said providing residents with high-quality care was “at the heart of everything we do.”

The Tele was unable to contact Ms Galloway for comment.
