Second person held following discovery of remains in Montrose

A second person has been detained by police in connection with the discovery of human remains in a Tayside town.

A woman is being interviewed by detectives investigating the tragedy in Montrose.

It follows confirmation that a 39-year-old man had been charged with murder earlier in the day.

Detective Superintendent David McLaren said: “As part of our ongoing inquiries into the discovery of human remains in Montrose on Wednesday 4 November we are speaking to a number of people as we conduct our investigation.

“Further to the 39-year-old man who has been charged, a woman is also detained in relation to the incident.

“We continue to carry out forensic work at several addresses in Montrose and those investigations are likely to go on for some considerable time.”

Police were called to Market Street in the Angus town shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

It’s been reported that human remains were found in the area.

The 39-year-old man charged is set to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Monday charged with murder.

Police have moved to reassure the public describing the incident as ‘extremely unusual’.
