A Dundee charity which clothes needy kids has inspired an initiative in Arbroath.

Togs for Tots collects and distributes baby and children’s clothing and equipment, on a referral basis, around Dundee.

The scheme has now inspired a similar organisation in Arbroath called Lighthouse Kids Clothes Bank.

It’s run by Morven and David Webster, who moved to the area two years ago when David took up the post of Arbroath Town Mission pastor.

The scheme is currently collecting items to distribute around families who can’t afford to clothe kids.

Morven told the Tele the success of Togs for Tots and her church’s long history of helping the poor, which dates back to as far as 1830, inspired them to take action.

Morven said: “The area around the church is within the top five most deprived areas in Scotland.

“There is a huge need for a scheme like this here.

“We were seeing how big the issue was and we wanted to do something about it.

“We were talking to social workers and other members of our church who work in that area.

“The stories they were telling us made us want to act immediately.

“Then we heard of Togs for Tots and all the great work they had done with deprived families in Dundee.

“Jordan Butler has been a huge help to us in getting this set up.

“We have been messaging back and forth over Facebook and she has passed on her knowledge to us.

“We can’t thank her enough for her help,” said Morven.

“We are currently taking donations and hope to begin taking referrals in the next few weeks, once we have built up the stock.”

Togs for Tots founder, Jordan Butler, said she was “humbled” at the new start-up and optimistic about the scheme.

She added: “It is great our success is inspiring other people to try to make a difference.

“There are needy families all around the country and it is great that Lighthouse Kids Clothes Bank will be trying to make a difference in the Arbroath area.”

Lighthouse Kids Clothes Bank works with healthcare organisations within Arbroath and they will be taking donations on Tuesdays from 1pm to 3pm at Arbroath Town Mission Centre.
