A major new housing development that will bring hundreds of homes to Monifieth could take up to 10 years to complete, the developers have revealed.
Taylor Wimpey has already gained planning permission to build 332 homes on land in the north of the town at The Grange.
It has now lodged new papers with Angus Council that offer more details about how the development will come together.
Taylor Wimpey says that the housing — which will be built south-east of Victoria Street, opposite Ethiebeaton Park — will be built at a rate of just 35 homes per year.
And with work set to start in January next year, it will take until 2026 for all the homes to be built at that rate.

A statement from the company said: “The build rate could be increased if there were more than one developer, however, this is not the case at present.”
It added that the timescales were “subject to various influences such as site construction conditions and marketing conditions throughout the duration of the development”.
It’s planned that the first house will be completed by November next year.
A new access road will be constructed early in phase one, from January, with additional roads for the housing being added as the new homes come forward.
The development will consist of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses on what is currently farmland.

There will be two access points to the estate, both from Victoria Street.
A quarter of the development will be allocated as social housing.
Monifieth and Sidlaw councillor Rob Murray said: “The development will feature a lot of social housing, and that has got to be welcome as it’s the type of housing that’s being sought by the people of Monifieth.
“It will mean many families can stay here in Monifieth and will not have to move further afield in search of housing, which is extremely positive.
“The fact that the development is likely to be spread out over a longer period of time is a good thing.
“It means the area will not be swamped with housing and we can manage allocations according to demand.”
