Tributes were have been paid to a “family” man from Dundee who died in an accident on the A90.

Witold Solski, 65, passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

The two-vehicle crash involved a lorry, with the driver of the truck believed to be from the Aberdeenshire area.

Witold was driving between Forfar and Brechin when the collision took place near to the Careston junction.

His 30-year-old female passenger and the lorry driver were not hurt.

Witold was a self-employed tradesman and was described as a “great guy”.

Friend Thomasz Zalewski, 37, who owns a Polish food store, said: “I was shocked to hear the news about Witold.

“He was a great guy, really friendly to everyone he met.

“He was good. He never drank or anything like that. He just liked to spend time with his family — he was just a nice person.

“He worked hard for his family and loved them.

“He will be missed — he was just a great guy in every way.”

Independent Brechin and Edzell councillor Bob Myles said the crash was a “tragedy” and everyone in the local area would be thinking of Witold’s family at this time.

He said: “Obvi-ously everybody’s thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman who was killed.

“Every fatal collision is a tragedy. With a road like the A90 there is a lot of traffic there’s the potential for things like this to happen but I don’t think it’s any more dangerous than other roads.

“I don’t know the circumstances that led to it and how it happened, but I’m sure that will happen in due course.

“I don’t know if this crash has got anything to do with the junctions around here, but with the junctions leading onto a high speed road, there is a possibility of accidents. At the moment I don’t think we can do much about the road that can make it a bit safer.”

Police renewed their appeal for witnesses to the crash, which happened on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Inquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are on-going and Tayside Division would appeal for anyone who may have information that could assist officers with their enquiries to contact Police Scotland on 101.

“As with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
