Trains between Dundee and Aberdeen faced delays today due to ‘broken rails’ at Carnoustie.

All services travelling through Dundee were subject to delays after the problem was flagged up just before 10.30am.

Engineers were quickly on scene to reclamp the rail and the line reopened a short time later at 11.15am.

A spokeswoman for the ScotRail Alliance said: “The line through Carnoustie had to be closed for a short time while engineers repaired a broken rail. The works were carried out as quickly as possible, but could not be safely completed without closing the railway.

“Services are beginning to return to normal, but some knock-on delays are still in place.

“We apologise to customers affected by this incident.”
