Firefighters helped in the rescue of 300 pigs following a barn fire near to Monikie.

Fire crews from Dundee were called to East Denside Farm just before 12pm.

A barn was ablaze next to where the pigs were being housed and the firefighters were tasked with moving them to a safer area.

The fire, which lasted for around three hours, completely destroyed the barn.

Two engines from the Kingsway and two from Balmossie fire stations were called to the scene. Upon their arrival, they found the building was ‘well-alight’.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four fire appliances are in attendance at East Denside Farm in Monkie.

“We were called at 11.59am after reports of a barn on fire.

“The building has been completely destroyed. Firefighters used hose-jet reels to bring the fire under control.

“The fire is still ongoing and work is being done to limit the spread of the fire to an adjacent barn which is housing pigs.

“There are no pig casualties.”
