Dundee and Tayside has been issued with a severe weather warning for Hogmanay and New Year’s Day.

The ‘be aware’ for snow and ice has been put in place from 6pm today until 12pm tomorrow.

The area is still recuperating from the aftermath of Storm Frank with parts of Angus and Perthshire affected by severe flooding.

Most of the snow is expected to fall this evening which is expected to cause hazardous conditions tomorrow morning. Temperatures will drop to 2C, but could feel as cold as -4C.

Snow is expected to lie on ground 200m above sea level.

A statement from the Met Office read: “A cold, showery airstream will bring wintry showers across the region.

“Whilst most showers at low levels will be of rain, they will turn to snow locally in heavier bursts.

“Showers of rain, sleet and snow will lead to local accumulations on hills above 200-300m. They will ease during the night but will leave a risk of icy patches which lasts into New Year’s Day.

“Please be aware of these wintry hazards.
