Dundee and Tayside is set to enjoy a break from the pouring rain – but will have to put up with freezing temperatures.

Constant rain over the last two weeks caused flooding all across the region

But the rain is set to stop and make way for some sunshine.

The Met Office had issued weather warnings for snow and ice for this week, but they have since been stood down after the snow failed to materialise.

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said: “The week ahead looks to be a lot colder but will be bright and dryer.

“There was a weather waning in place but was removed at 9am this morning. There are no more in place but we may issue one for ice and frost as the week goes on.

“Though the west of the country is more likely to see snow, those at 200-300m above sea level could see some dustings.”

Looking at the week ahead, the spokeswoman added that the area will see some respite from the recent rain, but warned that Atlantic weather systems are set to push across the country, bringing rain and strong winds.

She said: “Today is to be cloudy with a maximum of 4C and that is looking the same for tomorrow.

“On Wednesday the sun will make an appearance, the down side is that it will be very cold. We could see icy patches and frost develop over Wednesday night.”

“Going into Friday will again be a bright day and that should be the same over the weekend.

“Going into the middle of next week though there will be a colder spell coming in. It will bring with it showers, but not to the extent of what we’ve seen in recent weeks.”
