Two children remain in a serious condition in Ninewells Hospital after a horror road crash yesterday.
A two-year-old girl was killed as she walked along the pavement in Coupar Angus with her six-year-old brother and 17-year-old sister.
A collision between two cars on the A94 Forfar Road near to Larghan Park led to the horrific incident at about 3.20pm on Thursday.
Police, the Scottish Ambulance Service, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance and a trauma team all attended the scene, however the tot could not be saved.
A 23-year-old male driver of the Ford Focus and a 34-year-old female driver of the Citroen C4 involved in the crash are believed to have suffered only minor injuries and were treated on the scene.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said that a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Meanwhile, tributes were today paid to the toddler who was tragically killed.
A bouquet of flowers was placed at the scene of the crash.
Lorraine Benzies, whose house is right beside where the accident happened, said she was shocked and deeply saddened.
She added: “We weren’t at home and didn’t get back until later last night but when we arrived home we became aware of what had happened.
“This is absolutely awful. This is the most terrible thing to have happened to a family.
“You can’t begin to think about what that family is going through. It is just such a dreadful shame.”
Mrs Benzies said that the police were at the scene until around midnight last night.
She added: “There was a police presence here until late at night but we just stayed in the house away from what was going on.”
Perth and Kinross councillor Dennis Melloy, who serves the Strathmore ward, said the whole town was in shock.
He added: “Feelings in the town are obviously high about all this. It’s a close-knit community, especially at the Larghan Park area near to where this happened.
“That poor family. Everyone in Coupar Angus is stunned. This is so very sad and should never have happened.
“My sincere thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.”
* A previous story stated the boy was five-years-old. Police Scotland has now clarified that the child is in fact 6.
