A resort owner said he was “gutted” after a luxury lodge at the leisure centre was destroyed in a fire.

Firefighters were called to tackle a blaze at one of the lodges at Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort.

The alarm was raised at 7.30am yesterday and three crews attended from Macalpine Road and Blackness Road stations.

No one was injured in the blaze. Police were investigating the cause of the fire.

Phil Mulholland, owner of the resort, told the Tele: “We are gutted and shocked about what has happened.

“The loss of a lodge is a serious concern for us because they are almost always completely booked up.

“At this stage, we do not know how the fire started but, hopefully, the fire service and the police can get to the bottom of what caused it.

“We are fully assisting them with their inquiries.

“We will get the lodge rebuilt as soon as it is practical.”

Upon arrival, fire crews discovered the building was “well alight”.

More than three hours later, two fire crews remained at the scene to dampen down the area.

The Muirloch Executive Lodge, which includes a hot tub, can cost up to £700 to hire for a three-night weekend.

Watch manager Terry Whyte, of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Three appliances attended from Macalpine Road and Blackness stations.

“Approximately 15 firefighters were on the scene. We found the lodge well alight but quickly got it under control.

“We believe there were people staying in the lodge but there are no injuries.

“We are waiting on more information as to whether a fire investigation will be carried out and at this stage, our fire investigation team are on standby.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 7.30am after a fire at one of the executive lodges at Piperdam Resort.

“Firefighters found the lodge well alight. Three appliances attended.

“Two remained on the scene to dampen down the area.”
